Sri Lanka is a beautiful island that is well worth a visit. Buddhist, Hindu and Muslim culture, national parks with wild elephants, beaches with many surf spots and snorkelling reefs – Sri Lanka offers all this and more. If you are spending a holiday on the island and have a heart for animals, you are cordially invited to visit our animal shelter. We are very much hoping for animal lovers who would like to stay longer in Weligama and support us with active co-operation. Our large shelter with currently 140 dogs is located in Trincomalee and has no volunteer rooms, but you are welcome to visit. The volunteer help takes place in the small shelter in Weligama.
There are 3 rooms available for volunteers in my house. 9 dogs and 18 cats live there and look forward to attention and walks. You can reach the town in 5 minutes by moped, with many restaurants and shopping facilities as well as the long beach with several surf schools.
Help with feeding, medical treatments, training the dogs, walking, cleaning and simply spending time with the animals, taking photos/filming and social media support – there are many ways to get involved. We are looking for 4-5 hours a day/5 days a week, so that there is enough free time to explore the area and enjoy the beach.
If you fall in love with an animal during your visit to our animal shelter, there is also the possibility of adopting it and taking it home with you. We will be happy to help you with the organisation.
